The Holy Cross Lutheran Church board of directors will discuss whether to close the church’s child care center.
The Holy Cross Lutheran Nursery and Pre-Kindergarten Child Care Center is not officially closed yet but may be forced to close due to a recent loss of staff, according to Pastor Brian Krueger.
The board of directors will meet to discuss options for the center. Krueger said the regular meeting is not scheduled until the second week of July, but he is contacting board members in hopes to move the meeting up.
The confusion started after parents were notified the center was closing, but the church did not make that announcement. The center does not have students at the moment due to the lack of staff.
“It’s a really tough decision,” Krueger said. “We’ve been struggling with this for a while on what to do.”
While many members and alumni don’t want to see the center close, others think it may be for the best. Members have discussed the topic during meetings for one and a half to two years, according to Krueger. Krueger said he has not heard much feedback from members yet, but he has heard many rumors.
“It’s sad because there’s no way to go back and chase those down,” Krueger said.
The church child care has been open for many years and has previously gone through changes and closures. Although there are costs in keeping the child care open, Krueger said the church saw value in the program because of the need for childcare in the community. The board of directors will address the issue, but Krueger said members will ultimately decide whether to close the center.
