Jill Cordes appears poised to continue utilizing her experience as Mower County Recorder.
Cordes filed last week for her second term as county recorder, and no one filed to run against her before the filing period for public office expired Tuesday.
Cordes said she brings extensive experience to the role. She served as as chief deputy recorder under Sue Davis for 12 years, and before that she worked for Chuck Enger, also a former recorder.
In her post, she said experience is key.
“It’s not a thing you can go out and get a degree in,” Cordes said. “There’s no schooling you can go to. It’s all hands-on learning.”
To Cordes, a lot has been going on in her office, with electronic recording starting in her office last year, she’s seen a rush of work with documents for the new Pleasant Valley Wind Farm in Sargeant and Dexter.
“It’s been a busy year with lots of changes in my office,” she said.
The office also handles burning permits, genealogy research for birth and death records, the main phone line for the county, morning processing of mail, passports and passport photos.
“I’ve got a lot of experience, and I think I’ve done a great job,” she said.
