Nell Louise Madura, 92, formerly of Austin, died Wednesday June 11, 2014, at the Keystone Communities of Eagan, Eagan, Minn.

Nell Louise Rommel was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Louis and Blanche (King) Rommel. Nell graduated from Roosevelt High School and from the University of Minnesota. Nell was married to John P. Madura in June of 1946 at Minneapolis, Minn. She taught music in Rose Creek and was the band director at Southland High School before her retirement. Nell was also the choir director at Fellowship Methodist church in Austin.

Nell was a charter member of the Fellowship United Methodist Church and more recently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Austin. She was a charter member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Nell was devoted to her church and family. She loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. She camped with family, participated in mission trips, took up scuba diving at age 62 and traveled worldwide to many countries.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband John Madura and son Bob.

She is survived by sons, John (Kathryn Christie) Madura, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Tom (Jo) Madura, Apple Valley, Minn.; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Marjorie Talkovich, Safety Harbor, Fla.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, at the Clasen Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Marilee A. Benson officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials are preferred to Austin Symphony or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
