Agnes Christine Bothun, 98, of Lanesboro, died unexpectedly at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minn., passing through death into the eternal care of our Lord on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. She was 98 years young.
Agnes was born on Nov. 26, 1915, in rural Rushford, Minn., to Peter and Liv (Stromme) Peterson. On April 3, 1941, she was united in marriage to Norris Tilford Bothun of Lanesboro, son of Alfred and Bertha Bothun, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro. From 1946 until 1965, they owned and operated a livestock sales business in Whalan and then Lanesboro. In 1951, they purchased a farm two and a half miles north of Lanesboro on County Road 8, which created loving memories for the family.
Agnes especially enjoyed homemaking, her family, cooking, gardening, neighborhood and church dinners, and going out to eat. Her favorite foods include lutefisk and lefse.
On two occasions, she enjoyed visiting her parents’ farm at Vradal, Porsgrunn and Ulefoss in Telemark, Norway. Agnes was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Survivors include three sons, Roger of Lanesboro, Darald (Leitha) Bothun of Rochester, Minn., Peter Bothun of Arlington, Texas; six grandchildren, Kimberly (David) Evenson of Savage, Minn., Erick (Cara) Bothun of Roseville, Minn., Kristin Bothun of Kasota, Minn., Laura (David) Cowan of Wolfforth, Texas, Abigail (Craig) Ferguson of Singapore, and Andrew Bothun of Fayetteville, Ark.; 10 great-grandchildren, Annika Evenson, Andrew Evenson, Benjamin Evenson, Cole Bothun, Dane Bothun, Luke Bothun, Thea Bothun, Kaylee Cowan, Kennedy Cowan, and Kason Cowan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and loving husband Norris of 58 years; an infant son Gary; and six brothers Carl, Edward, Gilbert, Oscar, Leonard, and Palmer Peterson.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lanesboro with the Rev. Kerry Eversole officiating. A committal service will follow at in the Lanesboro Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
