Best Bets: Concerts, plays and fundraisers

This weekend is filled with tons of fun, bringing fundraisers, a play and even a concert. With all these events, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

1. “The Odd Couple”

7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday- Sunday, Frank W. Bridges Theatre, Riverland Community College, Austin Campus

Meet two mismatched roommates: neat, uptight Felix Ungar and slovenly, easygoing Oscar Madison. As both men recover from their recent divorces, they find familiar patterns beginning to emerge. 2. Run with The Breast Of Us 5k

8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Brownsdale Elementary School, 101 Mill St N, Brownsdale, MN

Run with the Breast of Us 5k run/walk will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at the Brownsdale Elementary School. This event is open to all ages. Registration fees include a t-shirt, bib number, and refreshments after the race. Pre-registration forms are available online or at CHS, the gas station, in Brownsdale. Registration forms can be mailed in with payment if postmarked by July 29 to: Run with the Breast of Us Attn: Tina/Megan Ellis, 23343 580th Ave, Austin, MN 55912. Packet pick up and same-day registration will be held from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. race day. Same day registration costs are $25 for adults, $15 for children 12 and under.

3. Boundary Waters Boys and Marina Whight Concert

10:30 to 11:30 a.m., 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., 7 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Jay C. Hormel Nature Center Ruby Rupner Auditorium

Pat and Donna Surface, with the Boundary Waters Boys and Whight, take you on a memorable, nostalgic journey back in time to the classic songs of the ‘60s and ‘70s. This is an Alzheimer’s Fundraiser in memory of Don Deines. A freewill offering going towards Alzheimer’s research will be accepted at the concert. The morning concert is a senior special, the afternoon concert is family friendly, and the evening concert is based for adults.

4. ArtWorks Festival Workshop for Kids (Grades 5 – 8)

1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Austin Artworks Center

Have a budding artist in the family? The workshop is a perfect way for kids to build confidence and make new friends as they work together to create a work of art which will be put on display during the ArtWorks Festival on Aug. 23 and 24. 5. Third Annual Jake Moe Scholarship Fundraiser

3 to 11 p.m., Saturday, Windrift Lounge in Austin, 2511 11th St. NE

All proceeds will go to the Jake Moe Carpentry Scholarship Fund at Riverland Community College. Thanks to everyone’s generosity last year, two scholarships were awarded in Jake’s name.
