Dulohery

He was born Aug. 18, 1944, in Gainsville, Texas, to Curtis V. Dulohery, Sr. and Grenell (Nellie) Anna Hassur Dulohery. The family moved to Germany for a short time where his father served as a colonel in the U.S. Army. Curt’s parents separated and Nellie relocated to Omaha, Neb., when Curt was very young. Curt attended Catholic schools and served as an altar boy, although his voice was excused from the choir. He graduated from Arch Bishop Ryan High School in 1962.

Curt became a cook in Omaha and St. Louis with dreams of traveling to France for chef school. Although his feet were too flat to join the Navy, he was quickly drafted into the U.S. Army. He trained as an aircraft repairman with duty in Vietnam prior to honorable discharge in 1967.

He returned to culinary arts, and became an assistant manager for food service management. In December of 1972, Curt tested and was accepted into the DeKalb Fire Department, DeKalb, Ill. Curt was instrumental in the development of the Paramedic program for the city of DeKalb, was a certified Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic, and completed advanced training for hazardous materials. He rose to the rank of assistant fire chief and faithfully served the department for over twenty-two years. He attended Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., where he also taught courses for emergency medical services.

In the process of becoming a Paramedic he met Yvette Marie Fohrman, one of the certifying nurses. They married and Curt became the loving father of two sons, Sean Michael and Jared Vincent. They made their home in the DeKalb area for more than 20 years. In 1997 they relocated to Mankato, Minn., and later moved to an acreage between Madelia and New Ulm.

Curt was a gifted cabinetry maker and stained-glass artisan. He enjoyed bringing the wood to life and capturing light with glass.

Curt is survived by his loving wife, Yvette; and their sons, Sean and his wife Kelly from Mankato, and Jared of Madelia.

Curt was preceded in death by his mother, father; and an infant sister.
