Austin grad Marcus Stoulil was on the baseball diamond with a lot of his friends and old teammates at Marcusen Park Friday. However, Stoulil was in the opposite dugout he was used to being in.

Stoulil was pitching for the Austin Blue Sox and he helped them beat the Austin Post 91 Legion baseball team 7-3 in an exhibition game.

Stoulil struck out seven in five innings and allowed just three hits.

“It was one of those things where you want to compete because you want to have the bragging rights on your side, because I know they would’ve gave me hell if they would’ve been raking off me,” Stoulil said. “It was fun. Once you get out there you’re friends and everything, but you have to bear down, play for the team you’re on and do the best you can.”

Stoulil had pitched just four innings this summer before Friday, but Blue Sox manager Josh Kunze wanted to see what he could do with a few more innings.

“I wanted to see more of Marcus on the mound and he did all right,” Kunze said. “He overthrew a little early in the game. He does a lot better when he just relaxes.”

The Blue Sox took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Cody Meyer singled in a run and Brandon Rector doubled in a pair of runs. Post 91 pulled to within 4-2 when Jordan Hart hit a triple to the center field wall to score a run in the third and it pulled to within 4-3 in the top of the fifth.

The Blue Sox took pulled away in the fifth when Nate Wilson tripled in a run, Lukas Anderson singled in a run and Jason Stoulil singled in a run.

“We try to make it as even a playing field as we can,” Kunze said. “We’re not coming out trying to crush them, we’re just trying to have a good game. I probably watch the other team more than I watch our team just to see if there are guys who can help us a few years down the road. I saw good things out of them and they should be very proud. They’re having a very good season.”
