Austin Public Schools recognized student accomplishment last Thursday.
That marked the last day of Targeted Services Summer School. Woodson Kindergarten Center and I.J. Holton Intermediate School hosted the pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade program for the past three weeks.
Woodson celebrated with a school-wide carnival from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with several activities.
I.J. Holton recognized 14 students for effort and progress with a “Report Out” award in grades fifth through eighth. During summer school, students were writing in response to current event articles as well as curriculum geared to developing a growth mindset.
In addition, two classrooms were recognized for their work with creating Word Walls, which focused on vocabulary development throughout the three-week period. The two classrooms awarded this prize were Brandon Button’s homeroom class and Ms. Wermager’s homeroom class. Finally, on the last day of summer school we had field events in which each homeroom competed as teams in various activities. The activities included a marshmallow relay, raindrop relay, bingo, and kickball.
There was great enthusiasm on behalf of the students cheering their teammates on during these competitions. A homeroom team from each grade level was awarded a team prize as a result of their “victories” at each of the four station activities. The award ceremonies began at 11:30 a.m. Organizers thanked Hormel for donating food and novelty products to award these students.
