Honour: Freeze minimum wage, cut taxes

ST. PAUL — Business executive Scott Honour pledged Monday to freeze Minnesota’s minimum wage and cut an array of taxes if voters make him governor.
Those were two components of a wide-ranging economic plan Honour released about a week before a GOP primary to determine Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton’s fall challenger.
He said his proposal would fuel economic growth, though it is also likely to attract political pushback. Even if Republicans reclaim the governor’s office, the Democratic-controlled Senate is not on the ballot and could stymie GOP proposals.
Honour said Minnesota shouldn’t move ahead with additional increases to the minimum wage, which increased to $8 an hour on Friday and is due to climb to $9.50 by 2016. He wants legislative signoff before more increases occur, saying the new law containing automatic increases for years to come “is taking it too far.”
“Seeing minimum wage being increased by government and having government artificially interfere with the economy hurts the opportunity for Minnesotans to have a job,” Honour said.
