HUDSON, Wis. — A change in birthing policies at a western Wisconsin hospital is drawing protests from some expectant mothers and other women.

The policy change is over how pregnant women can give birth and it drew a small demonstration Monday outside Hudson Hospital.

The new policy says once a woman has cesarean section, she must have another one when giving birth again at the hospital. The hospital issued a statement which says medical staff and administrators decided to suspend vaginal births after cesarean sections — or VBACs — beginning Aug. 31. The hospital says it doesn’t have enough staff to adequately monitor the births.
