Jerry D. Vlasaty, 67, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Hospitals, Methodist Campus, Rochester, Minnesota.
Jerry Dean Vlasaty was born on Dec. 4, 1946, at Austin, Minnesota, the son of Leon and Dorothy (Norton) Vlasaty. He graduated from Austin High School and served in the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. After returning to the Austin area, Jerry was married to Sharon Johnson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on April 11, 1975. They have lived in Austin where Jerry worked for Hormel Foods Corp. for 40 years, retiring on July 31, 2009.
Jerry loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and doing carpentry. He could usually be found “putzing” with something.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharon Vlasaty of Austin, Minnesota; son, Michael Vlasaty, Dexter, Minnesota; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Matthew Mayer, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; grandchildren, Logan, Shelby, Maggie, Ben and Jessica; brothers, Charles Vlasaty, Austin, Minnesota, Frank Vlasaty; sister, Beverlee Moenke, Cottage Groove, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Liz Erickson officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery with Austin Post No. 91 American Legion in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 1 p.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
