They say the pathological fear of public speaking is more prevalent than fear of death. But coming to the Paramount is a man whose story proves that even the worst stage fright can be conquered, and that a great fear can turn into a great success.

Tim Patrick wouldn’t sing in the shower. In fact, he hadn’t sung for a single audience the night he stood up at Nye’s Piano Bar in Minneapolis and delivered a rendition of “Unforgettable” that had the room — and Patrick — hooked. After reprising his performance at Nye’s every week for two months, Patrick had gathered enough confidence to begin auditioning for theatre. He secured roles in productions of “The Music Man” and “My Fair Lady,” and shortly after recorded an unofficial album that found its way into the hands of several industry heavy hitters. One official album, two fateful wedding gigs with lead trumpet Todd Matheson, and many unforgettable performances later, Tim Patrick became Tim Patrick and His Blue Eyes Band.

The Sinatra-esque crooner and his big band will be playing at the Paramount Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 20. Patrick’s repertoire comprises over 100 classics from the Rat Pack era, including “Girl from Ipanema” and “New York, New York.” Singer Debbie O’Keefe also regularly performs with the band, bringing her own set of classics (think Etta James and Billy Holiday).
