Underwood: Roller derby team to host first bout at Packer Arena on Saturday

The Austin Area High School Cycling Bike club is looking for you. You can find sign up information online in the Minnesota High School Cycle league pit zone or at our office. Bike Club is open to those students in grades 7 to 12 who have the desire to mountain bike. The formal season runs August through October and you must be signed up by Sept. 1 for this season. The fee for the Minnesota league insurance is $50, and race events are $40 each. Sponsorship grants are available. Check out the first roller derby bout on Aug. 23 at Packer Arena. Tickets are available from any Minnesota Southbound Roller member or Hy-Vee in Austin. They have practice this next week from 7 to 9 p.m. at Packer on Monday and Thursday night so tickets will be available then as well. They are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Check them out on Facebook under Minnesota Southbound Rollers. Door open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.
The Municipal Pool hours Monday through Thursday will change to the following: adult lap swim is from noon to 1 p.m. and open swim will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Open daily swim fees are $3 person. Thank you for swimming with us this summer.
The Doggie dip will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Municipal Pool. The cost is $2 per dog and up to two people; additional people will be $1 each.
The next free Nature Play Program will be on Thursday, with programs at 9:30 a.m. for Seniors and at 1:30 p.m. featuring John Duren, wildlife and nature photographer. Duren will present a selection of his favorite photos and tell you the story behind the image. Please RSVP by Wednesday, even though these concerts are free, they like to know how much space is needed.
We are partnering with Austin Youth Hockey to hold Squirt and Mite four-on-four leagues. Squirt will begin Monday, Sept. 8, and mites on Saturday, Sept. 13. Stop in our office to sign up.
Riverside figure skate club will begin their season on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 1 p.m. Figure skating is open to girls and boys age 4 and up. For questions stop at Riverside Arena between noon and 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, and talk with board members or the coach.
Adult volleyball information letters will be out soon as well. If you are interested in forming a fall or winter adult volleyball team, call our office with your mailing information and we will put you on our list.
Please help set a good example and follow our tobacco free policy. The city of Austin has a policy that prohibits the use of tobacco in all city facilities and at any playground/park location. Small children investigate the ground where they play and the first thing they do is put these items in their mouth. Please dispose of butts properly before entering these facilities or park locations. Thank you for your consideration.
