Alumni Update: May makes big play in loss

Southland grad Alan May made a big play Winona State on Saturday, but the No. 20 ranked Warriors football team lost 28-21 to No. 4 Minnesota-Duluth.

May, a junior at WSU, hauled in a 57-yard TD pass to put the Warriors (3-1 overall) up 14-3 early in the third quarter, but they couldn’t hang on. May finished the game with just that lone catch. May is second on the Warriors with 12 catches for 221 yards and two TDs this season.

Ike Vesel, the son of Austin head football coach Brett Vesel, had one tackle in the game for UMD.

VOLLEYBALL

Hayfield grad Abby Blanchard helped Briar Cliff University (13-4 overall) score a five-gave victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University Sept. 27.

Blanchard, a junior at BCU, had three kills, one dig and 10 serve receives in the win.

SOCCER

Austin grad Nicole Lipari, a sophomore forward, has played in all eight games for UW-La Crosse (3-2-3 overall) this season.

Lipari has three shots and two of them were on goal.

Hannah Voogd has played in three games at UW-River Falls (4-3-2 overall) this season. Voogd is a freshman forward on the team.

SOFTBALL

Hayfield grad Dani Wagner made her debut with the University of Minnesota softball team Saturday. The Gophers swept North Dakota State by scores of 7-5 and 11-5 in a fall exhibition doubleheader.
