Diane L. Asper, 59, of rural Webster, South Dakota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, and Durand, Wisconsin, died of natural causes at her home on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014.

She was born June 4, 1955, in Austin, the daughter of Olaf ‘Bud’ and Marcella (Smith) Jacobson. She attended school in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1973. After high school she attended college in South Dakota. She enlisted in the U.S. Army and served her country for 20 years. She was stationed overseas in Germany and other military posts in the United States. After she retired from the Army, she lived in Rolla, Missouri, and then rural Durand. She worked at Treasure Island Casino near Red Wing, Minnesota, as a blackjack dealer for 11 years. She married Tim Asper Feb. 14, 2007. After their marriage, the couple lived near Durand before moving to a home north of Webster, where they currently resided.

She enjoyed visiting with family and friends. She loved gardening, painting, reading, doing yard work and traveling. She also enjoyed her dogs.

Diane is survived by her husband, Tim Asper, of Webster; three sons, Chad (Ashley) Kuk, of Wabasha, Minnesota; Jason (Morgan Wentworth) Kuk, of Arkansaw, Wisconsin; Jacob Kuk, of Webster; one daughter, Megan (Kurtis Zomok) Kuk, of Kellogg, Minnesota; and three grandchildren, Clara Wentworth Kuk, Korbin Kuk, and Carter Kuk. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bud and Marcella Jacobson and her husband, Calvin Stewart.

A memorial service will be held at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha, Minnesota, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, with the Rev. David Knox of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post 50 and the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post 4086. Family and friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service on Thursday. Memorials and cards of sympathy may be sent to her husband, Tim Asper, 13048 431st Ave., Webster, SD, 57274. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements.
