Jerald Franklin Jones, 80, of Austin, Minnesota, died at The Cedars of Austin Sept. 1, 2014.
He was born Feb. 2, 1934, to Byron Spencer and Anna (Miller) Jones in Jackson, Minnesota. He married Betty Hoffman on Feb. 5, 1956, in Windom, Minnesota. Jerald grew up in the Jackson-Windom area and graduated from Windom High School in 1952. He worked in many broadcasting stations before settling in at KAAL-TV as chief engineer, where he remained for 27 years. Jerald loved working on his hobbies, which included looking at the stars, experimental aircraft and working on computers. He built his own telescopes and liked to study many topics.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; two sons, Craig (Mary Jo) Jones of Austin; Dennis (Lori) Jones of Austin; one daughter, Julie (Tony) Anthonisen of Albert Lea; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Jon, Josh, Andrew, Darcie, Jeremiah, Joseph, Hannah, Elissa and Matthew; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Jones.
Services are private for the family. Visitation for the public will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin.
