Schafer: Senior center classes help people stay healthy, active
Published 2:37 pm Saturday, September 13, 2014
Regular physical activity helps improve your overall health and fitness, and reduces your risk for many chronic diseases. As an older adult, regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. It can prevent many of the health problems that seem to come with age. It also helps your muscles grow stronger so you can keep doing your day-to-day activities without becoming dependent on others.
Not doing any physical activity can be bad for you, no matter your age or health condition. Keep in mind, some physical activity is better than none at all. Your health benefits will also increase with the more physical activity that you do.
As we turn the corner into fall, we want to remind you that the senior center is still here for your health and fitness needs. As you spend less time outside the colder it gets you can bring that exercise inside. At 1 p.m. on Monday afternoons we have a free exercise class: Exercise with Evie. Have fun with others the first half hour walking at your own pace and the second half hour with chair exercises. This go at your own pace one hour class also runs at 9 am. on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
If this type of class isn’t what interests you we have a variety of other choices such as Silver Sneakers, Silver and Fit classes at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday or Zumba/Zumba gold at at 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Give us a call for specific times.
There is always something to do at the senior center. We would love you to join us.
Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. On Tuesday, we are having Tuna Noodle Hotdish for $2. You are always welcome at the center.
