BLOOMING PRAIRIE —Blooming Prairie senior Nicole Inwards has joined two of her teammates who have broken school records already this season, and she added to that total Tuesday.
Inwards racked up 18 digs in a sweep of Southland to get closer to the BP school record to move her carreer record to 1,570 digs.
“I’m really excited to get it,” Inwards said. “I don’t know my stats that well, but I’m really happy the way this season is going.”
BP beat Southland by scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-22 in BP Tuesday.
The Rebels (11-11 overall) held a late 21-18 lead in the last game, but the Awesome Blossoms (13-11 overall) closed it out when Madison Worke, who is BP’s all-time set assists leader (2,207 assists), served an ace to end the match, and she finished with 14 kills.
“Madison did a nice job of stepping up and putting away points when needed,” BP head coach Gina McLaughlin said. “She is definitely a gamer.”
BP senior Taylor Hagen (998 kills), who holds the BP career kills record, had nine kills and eight blocks in the win.
Inwards has been BP’s starting libero for four years now and she said the job hasn’t gotten any easier. She said there’s more to it than just standing around in the back row and digging.
“[To say it is] a lot is an understatement,” Inwards said. “It’s so much more than just digging and passing. You have to run on tips, watch hitters and run the back court. When you wear the white shirt, you’re in charge.”
