Allen Edward Bornfleth, 95, of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at his home.
Allen was born on Sept. 25, 1919, to Fred and Zelma (Tate) Bornfleth in Austin, Minnesota. He married Dorothy Youngdahl on Jan. 14, 1939, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Austin. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper. Allen worked at Hormel for 45 years.
Allen enjoyed fishing, dancing, going for a drive and camping in his Airstream Travel Trailer. He and Dorothy wintered in Mission, Texas, for 24 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Allen is survived by his wife Dorothy Bornfleth, Austin, Minnesota; children: Robert (Sandy) Bornfleth, Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Cheryl (Gary) Maurek, Austin, Minnesota, Diane (Steve) Harrison, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren: Brian (Shelly) Bornfleth, Moraga, California, Julie (Todd) Bjork, Hudson, Wisconsin, Jeff (Carrie) Bowlby, Apache Junctioin, Arizona, James Bowlby, Odessa, Texas, Chris (Grant) Schmit, Byron, Minnesota, Brad (Beth) Harrison, Foley, Minnesota; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Gunard (Virginia) Youngdahl, Hollister, Missouri; sister-in-law Gladys Schmidt, Alexandria, Minnesota; four nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 20, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marilee Benson officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by Austin Post No. 91, American Legion and Olaf B. Damm Post No. 1216 VFW. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and at the church on Monday morning for one hour before the service. Memorials may be designated to First United Methodist Church.
