ArtWorks banking on music

There are all sorts of boundaries these days.
Around countries, around beliefs, around issues. But one of the great things about lines is they’re meant to be redrawn.
Education is one of those things that seems to have lines drawn around it, one of them being that which associates education with production.
It’s not an undeserved connection; as the saying goes, “I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.” But we like to color outside the lines around here, and there’s something to be said for hearing certain things. With that in mind, we’re making Music at the Bank.
Last Friday saw the Cedar Cultural Center present a group of five remarkable musicians at the ArtWorks Center. While the crowd was small (the draw of homecoming week), the folks present seemed to really dig it. A couple of spontaneous reviews resulted in two words that stuck in our heads and rang of a different sort of education going on in the Center: “phenomenal” and “indescribable.”
We’d like to reprise that reaction and offer the particular learning experience that is hearing something new, something indescribably phenomenal.
Whalen and the Willows will be our next session of Music at the Bank.
At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, for $5, you can hear something new — the trio, led by Austin native Joshua Whalen, will be celebrating the release of their debut EP, “The Passing Days.”
Whalen is excited to be hosting such an event at the center, citing its smaller size as an ideal and intimate atmosphere for their first release party.
We happen to agree, and look forward to bringing you the indescribably phenomenal in all forms.
