Best Bets: Weekend to be spooky, memorable

This weekend is sure to be spooky and memorable. With a Halloween dinner and a scary movie on Friday and a public auction and football legend on Saturday, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

1. Halloween Dinner

12 to 1 p.m., Friday, Mower County Senior Center

Everyone is welcome, join for the Halloween Costume Dinner. Costumes are optional, but there will be a prize for the best one. There will be a fun meal of human brains with eyeballs, and dessert will be worms in dirt. There will also be photo ops. The cost is $6.50. For more information, please call 507-433-2370.

2. Night of the Living Dead

7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, Historic Paramount Theatre

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, the Paramount will host “Night of the Living Dead,” a scary movie for Halloween night. Released in 1968, the movie follows a host of characters who try to escape from zombies by barricading themselves in a farm house. As the show progresses, there are fights for power, emotions flare and the audience will discover what will become of the unlikely zombie-refugees. Tickets cost $5. There will also be a Bloody Mary bar available

3. City of Austin / Austin Police Public Auction

10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Packer Arena

There will be vehicles, bikes and miscellaneous items that were never reclaimed for auction. For more information, go to www.auctionsgo.com.

4. Football Camp with Minnesota Viking legend Carl Lee

11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sterling Mainstreet/ Westcott Field

Pre-registration is 11 to 11:45 a.m. at Sterling Mainstreet. Meet with Carl Lee and secure your spot at camp. There will be free Sterling water, and an opportunity to register for a chance to win Vikings memorabilia and more. Registration will be at noon at Westcott Field. This includes a photo opportunity with Carl Lee. A parent or legal guardian must register and be present at the camp. The number of participants may have to be limited. The football camp at Westcott field will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a US Bank pizza party for camp participants at George’s Pizza, and a small one topping pizza will be $3.99 in honor of Carl Lee’s jersey number 39. Free prizes will also be given away.

5. Hormel Historic Home Carriage Hall Anniversary

6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Hormel Historic Home

The event will begin with a wine tasting, followed by the program, and entertainment by Davina and the Vagabonds, celebrating the first five years of the expanded banquet center at the Hormel Historic Home. This facility has hosted over 150 educational events and been the site of over 2,200 other events. The Carriage Event Center ensures that the HHH will remain a vital part of the Austin community for years to come.
