The No. 2 ranked Randolph football team had a countdown to when they would play the No. 1 ranked Superlarks on display at their school for the better part of the last year.

What happened when the teams finally met on Friday, is probably something the Rockets (5-1 overall, 5-1 SEC) would like to forget.

The Superlarks out-gained Randolph 479 yards to 175 yards as they cruised to a 54-6 win in GM.

Senior Landon Jacobson set a new career standard for touchdowns at GM as he scored his 76th career TD in the win. GM’s former all-time TD leader was Caleb Leichtnam, who had 75 career TDs.

Jacobson ran for 203 yards and three TDs and he also picked off a pass on defense.

“We knew he was close to the record and we made it a point to give Landon the ball tonight,” GM head coach Gary Sloan said.

Sloan said Jacobson ranks right up there with some of the top players in Superlark history, but he also pointed out that Jacobson has played on some really good teams. GM won the nine man state title last season and it took second in 2012.

“Football’s a team game and he’s got a lot of good teammates around him,” Sloan said.

The showdown between the Larks (6-0 overall, 6-0 SEC) didn’t turn out to be much of a battle as GM led 21-0 after the first quarter.

“Our kids were fired up and they were wound up about as tight as they could’ve been this week,” Sloan said.
