Austin police had to shock a man with a Taser three times after he refused to cooperate after an alleged assault.
Early Saturday, a 35-year-old man was arrested at the 200 block South Main Street on suspicion of felony domestic assault, strangulation and obstruction of the legal process, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.
Police received a call around 9 p.m. Friday from a woman who told officers she was “in total fear” of the suspect after he knocked her down and started to choke her. The victim’s young daughter witnessed the assault on the 800 block of 12th Avenue Southwest.
The man fled after the alleged assault, and officers received a tip as to his location.
After refusing all commands by officers, the suspect reportedly told police, “You’re going to have to shoot me; I have a weapon.”
Officers shocked the suspect with a Taser. The first shock had little effect on him and the second got him to the floor. Officers then shocked him with a drive-stun, and they were then able to get handcuffs on him.
He was taken to the Mower County Jail, where he is awaiting formal charges.
