Adult volleyball team registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 9.

A reminder that the Austin Audubon and the Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center are sponsoring the next free program in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium, “A Love Affair with Birds: The Life of Thomas Sadler Roberts” by Sue Leaf at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

It is time to register for youth wrestling. The season will begin on Monday, Dec. 1, for those ages pre-K through sixth-grade. Sign up at the Park and Recreation office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The next date for adult open hockey is from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Packer Arena on Nov 19. We will not hold open hockey on Nov. 26, so check out the Bruins game. The cost is $6 and you must be in high school and not playing youth hockey, no checking, no alcohol and helmets are required.

Pubic skates dates are: from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 3; from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. Nov. 23 and 30; 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; 3:30 to 5 p.m. Nov. 28.

The cost to skate is $4, if you need skates, rentals are $1.

Open gym for area youth volleyball players will take place on the following dates and times: 7 to 8:30 Monday; 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 24, Dec.1, 8 and 15 at Ellis Middle School Gym. For more information follow us on Facebook or call our office. The open gym is free.

This year, when you become a new member or renew your Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center membership for 2015, you can give one free gift membership to any family or friend who is a non-member. It is like getting two memberships for the price of one.

The gift membership is a one-time offering from now to Jan. 10, 2015. Any new memberships or renewals received after Jan. 10, will not include a gift membership. The new member will receive the Friends membership as a gift noted from you. Please contact the nature center for further information or check out their website at www.hormelnaturecenter.org.

Mark your calendars for 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6 to check out TubaChristmas. A free concert will be held in Austin’s Oak Park Mall near Younkers. If you have not seen this, it is a must. If you would like to participate, registration begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by rehearsal at 11 a.m. at the mall. You may check music out by calling the Park and Recreation office. Austin girls hockey will host Faribault at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov 25 at Riverside Arena.
