The owner of one of Austin’s newest businesses is looking for the public’s help as he gets ready to open.

Kevin Guy, owner of Everything Hobby in Rochester, is set to open an Austin location in the next few weeks at 107 Fourth Ave. NE. But Guy is looking for people’s feedback and suggestions on what type of items they want to see in the store.

“Right now is the time we can kind of tailor it to more the things that they’re looking for,” he said.

Guy said people often share fond memories of past hobby shops in Austin, and he wants his store to sell all the items people want. One woman recently suggested selling beads, and he wants to make the store a family fun center.

Guy will have plenty of inventory to start out. ABC Hobby in La Crosse, Wisconsin, recently closed, and Guy bought much of the leftover inventory, which he transferred to his Austin store.

“We’re going to start out with some really, really good stuff,” he said.

Guy has remodeled the Austin store and is working on a sign.

However, he still needs to work out a glitch with his sales system, which will connect his Austin and Rochester stores, before he opens.

Along with selling models, Guy also aims to bring programs and classes to town for models and other hobby activities.

Guy is also looking for people willing to work at the store or participate in some of the programs and classes.

To contact Guy, stop in the store or call 507-396-8698.
