Gerth A. ‘Bud’ Anderson, 90, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Prairie Manor Care Center.

He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Blooming Prairie, the son of Anton and Kristine (Jensen) Andersen. Gerth married Phyllis H. Knutson on June 23, 1948, in Blooming Prairie. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS O’Brien. Gerth made his living in farming and he also restored and refinished furniture. A member of First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, he also was active in the Masons, the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Through the years, some of Gerth’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed dancing and playing cards. He especially loved his family gatherings at the lake.

Gerth is survived by his sons: Allen ‘Butch’ (Diane) Anderson, Arden (Karla) Anderson, and daughter-in-law Jan Anderson, all of Blooming Prairie; his daughters: Judy (Wayde) Bishop of Blooming Prairie, Debbie (Terry) Hoffman of Owatonna, Janine (Mick) Brooks of Austin, and LeAnn (Dennis) Repp of Osakis, Minnesota; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; his sister Donna (Norman) Schieck of Austin; sisters-in-law: Shirley Knutson, and Marilyn Knutson; brother-in-law Donald Yentsch, all of Blooming Prairie; many nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Kristine Andersen; his wife, Phyllis, in 1996; a son Arlen in infancy; a son David Anderson; a granddaughter Anna; and a sister Betty Beattie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, with Pastors Charles Leonard and Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Interment will follow in First Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by VFW, Post 878 and American Legion Post 52. Friends may call at the Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
