ST. PAUL — The Minnesota chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is asking the FBI to investigate an anti-Islamic message that was found in a St. Paul neighborhood.

CAIR-MN Executive Director Lori Saroya says the message contained an expletive and was written in motor oil near a driveway in a neighborhood where many Muslim families live. She’s asking the FBI to investigate the incident as a hate crime.

A St. Paul Police Department incident report says an anonymous caller reported the graffiti on Oct. 28.

FBI spokesman Kyle Loven says the FBI is aware of the incident and has been consulting with police. He says authorities are still collecting facts, and if the facts support a possible hate crime the case will be turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
