The Hayfield Vikings girls basketball team moved on to the championship of the Byron Tournament Friday night with a 64-38 win over Sioux Central, Iowa.

It was Hayfield’s first game of the season.

The Vikings finished the first half with a 36-18 lead over Sioux Central (0-3) before cruising to the 26-point win, but not without some early season bumps.

The Vikings were 7-of-15 from the free-throw line.

Jo Bungum lead Hayfield with 22 points, which included 12 off of three-pointers.

“That was nice to see her firing on all cylinders,” said assistant coach Kasey Krekling.

Bhrett Zahnle chipped in 15 points.
