Marcella Rosalie Hoban and her twin sister Marion Rosamond Hoban were born Dec. 16, 1918, to Martin and Rose (Lightly) Hoban on the family farm near Oakland, in Moscow Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She attended school at Oakland, graduated from Austin High School and graduated from Teachers College. For a number of years, she taught school in the Brownsdale and Waltham areas. Marcella also worked at the Northwest Bank of Austin, the Austin Daily Herald and then at the Geo. A. Hormel CO., where she worked in the Livestock Accounting Department until her retirement.

Marcella and Marion were avid gardeners and became Master Gardeners. They were well-known in the area for the raspberries and tomatoes that they grew. The Hoban sisters were also some of the original founders of the Austin Farmers Market. For many years they owned and managed the Hoban Family Century Farm in Moscow Township.

Marcella and Marion were members of the Oakland Baptist Church and of the Austin Camera Club. They traveled extensively throughout the “lower 48” of the United States. During the winter months they would travel to Lutsen Mountain for cross country skiing, often spending the holidays there. They also enjoyed trips to the Wabasha area to observe the eagles. Marcella and Marion have been big supporters and fans of the Minnesota Twins over the years. For 18 years, they have lived at the St. Marks Apartments before moving to Our House Assisted Living earlier this year.

Marcella is survived by her twin sister, Marion Rosamond Hoban of Austin.

At Marcella’s request, no services are planned. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
