A favorite meeting place is coming back to Brownsdale.
The Mill St. Cafe, the former site of the Langtry Cafe, reopened Tuesday to a crowd and a ribbon-cutting to celebrate Brownsdale’s newest business.
“We needed to get this open, just to help the community,” Mike Schubert, owner of the Mill St. Cafe, said.
Mike and his wife Cindy have experience in the restaurant industry, and Mike had considered buying the cafe property at 107 S. Mill St. several times before.
Several area businessmen and residents approached the Schuberts about opening a new cafe after the Langtry Cafe closed in February. Brownsdale residents say the city got a little quieter after that business shut down.
“It was one of the key points in Brownsdale and brought business to Brownsdale,” said Ardis Jensen, president of the Brownsdale Area Business Association. “It was a real need that needed to be filled. It was our meeting place.”
After several months of work to redesign the cafe — including a new kitchen, new setup and new staff — Mill St. opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday and already is garnering reviews on the business’s Facebook page.
“So far so good,” Mike said.
Mill St. Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner service throughout the week. Patrons can get fish, chicken, steak, shrimp, sandwiches and a variety of appetizers and breakfast goods, according to Mike.
The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call the cafe at 507-567-2624.
