Still time to sign up for wrestling

It is not too late to register for youth wrestling.
The season will begin on Monday for those ages pre-K through sixth-grade. Sign up at the Park and Recreation office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Mark your calendars for TubaChristmas at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec 6. A free concert will be held in Austin’s Oak Park Mall near Younkers. If you have not seen this, it is a must.
If you would like to participate, registration begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by rehearsal at 11 a.m. at the mall. You may check music out by calling the Park and Recreation office. For more information you may call the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau at 507-437-4563.
Adult volleyball team registration deadline is Tuesday, Dec. 9. If you would like to receive information please call our office. The volleyball leagues play at Ellis Middle School with women on Wednesday nights and co-ed on Friday nights.
The next date for Adult open hockey dates at Packer Arena are from 7 to 8:15 p.m. this Wednesday, Dec. 10 and 17.
The cost is $6 and you must be in high school and not playing youth hockey, no checking, no alcohol and helmets are required.
The next dates are from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. this Sunday, Nov 30, and from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Dec. 10 and Dec. 17. Check the city web site at www.ci.austin.mn.us for the calendar.
Pubic skates are at Packer Arena. The cost to skate is $4, if you need skates rentals are $1.
Open gym for area youth volleyball players will take place on the following dates and times from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 8 and Dec. 15 at the Ellis Middle School Gym. For more information follow us on Facebook or call our office. The open gym is free.
The Austin boys hockey team will host LaCrescent at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Riverside Arena.
The Austin Bruin’s next home game is Saturday, Dec. 6, hosting Minnesota Wilderness at Riverside Arena. Puck drop is 7:05 p.m.

The following information is from the DNR guidelines for new, clear ice only: 2 inches or less stay off; 4 inches — ice fishing or other activities on foot; 5 inches — snowmobile or ATV; 8 to 12 inches — car or small pickup; 12 to 15 inches — medium truck. With white ice or “snow ice” it is only about half as strong as new clear ice. Double the above thickness guidelines when traveling on white ice.
