String of weekend thefts reported in SW Austin

A string of car and garage thefts at the 2400 area of southwest Austin over the weekend could be connected, according to police.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said several people reported their cars were broken into Saturday and Sunday at the 2400 block of 13th Street Southwest, the 2400 block of Ninth Street Southwest and the 2300 block of 13th Street Southwest.

One victim reported a set of Infinity subwoofers worth $500 were stolen from his car Saturday night into Sunday morning. The victim reported he had a car window rolled down, which was likely how the suspect got into his car.

Another victim reported someone broke into their garage and took $50 from the center console of their car. The service door to the garage was unlocked, according to Krueger.

A third victim reported numerous hunting and outdoors equipment worth thousands of dollars was stolen from their garage. A pair of binoculars worth $150 and two knives worth $80 each was taken from a car. In addition, an $800 Drenalin black bow inside a green case was stolen, as was 18 carbon arrows worth $250, three fishing poles, two tackle boxes, an ammunition box with more bow equipment and another set of binoculars, and an ammo box with .223 ammo were stolen as well.

Another person reported someone broke into their unlocked car and took an FM transmitter as well as a TomTom GPS.

Krueger said officers are investigating the thefts.
