Violet Lillian Kycek, 88, of Albert Lea, died on Monday, Nov. 17, 2014, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Violet was born on Oct. 17, 1926, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Tucek) Blecha. She grew up in Northeast Freeborn County and attended Austin High School. On June 22, 1943, Vi was married to Leonard W. Kycek in Albany, Oregon. She worked for Wilson and Co., retiring in 1981.
Vi was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin, the WFLA Lodge Zare Zapadu No. 44, the Eagles Auxiliary in Albert Lea, the Glenville American Legion Auxiliary, the Albert Lea Senior Center, the Scarlet Seniors Club, the 70th Infantry Division Auxiliary, and the Freeborn County Historical Society.
Survivors include her children: Ronald C. (Renee’) Kycek, and Sharon K. (Russ) King; grandchildren: Kristi (Mike) Twohig, Jason, (Loida) Kycek, Troy (fiancé Quenby) Broitzman, Shannon (Larry) Kampa, Sue (Jack) Shields, Tricia (Brian) Veenendaal, Greg (Erin) Reynen, and Liz (Tim) Tate; great-grandchildren: Natalie (Tom Clum), Tom and Nick Twohig, Christian Kycek, Jeremiah, Shania, Emily and Hope Kampa, Sara, Julia, Jace and Jackson Shields, Brett, Taylor, Brinn and Tahlia Veenendaal, and James Reynen; great-great-grandchildren: John, Michael, and Miriam Clum; brother-in-law Leland Kycek; sister-in-law Sylvia Kycek; and nieces and nephews.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard; son-in-law Robert Reynen; great-granddaughter Faith Kampa; brothers: Anton and Joseph Blecha; and sisters: Sophie Prihoda, Anna Cerny Penning, Marie Lisy, and Emily Cafourek.
Funeral services for Violet will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Todd Portinga, Associate in Ministry, will officiate. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery, Myrtle. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
