Wis. teen wins annual Hormel holiday card contest

Hormel’s annual Holiday Card Contest has another winner this year.

Hormel Foods Corp. announced Wednesday the winners of the company’s annual Holiday Card Contest for dependent children of active employees. The winning artwork will be used as the 2014 holiday card images to send seasonal greetings to thousands of Hormel Foods customers and contacts and was selected by representatives of the Hormel Foods executive team.

The grand-prize winner in the contest is Alexander Pfeiffer, and the runners up are Paiton Schwab and Izabella Sonnek.

“Thank you to everyone who entered the Holiday Card Contest, and congratulations to Alexander, Paiton and Izabella on their winning entries,” said Jeffrey M. Ettinger,Hormel Foods CEO and President, in a statement. “We are delighted to use these images for our company holiday cards and showcase the talent of the children of our employees.”

Alexander is the son of Sonja and Joe Pfeiffer, night supervisor of Grocery Products at the Beloit, Wisconsin plant. Alexander, a junior who is home-schooled, created his artwork using paper, paper punches, marker, pen and glue. The title of his card is “Holiday Cheer Beckons.”

Paiton.CardAccording to Alexander, he was surprised and excited that his design was selected as the winner and that he has bragging rights in his house because six of his brothers and sisters also entered the contest.

Alexander will receive a $500 cash scholarship for his winning entry, and the two runners up, Paiton and Izabella, will each receive a $100 cash scholarship. The scholarships are sent directly to the winners’ chosen institution and applied to the cost of art materials, art supplies or art education classes.
