Two men arrested yesterday morning for shooting guns and fireworks are being held at the Mower County Jail and are awaiting formal charges.
According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, Thavinh Kullavongsa, 32, and Phouminh Kullavongsa, 34, were both arrested Thursday at the 1400 block of Eighth Avenue Northwest after reports of gunfire around 7 a.m.
Both men were found to be convicted felons and were not allowed to be around or in possession of firearms. Police obtained a search warrant and found four guns: a 45-caliber Kahr, a loaded New England Arms 12-gage pump shotgun, a loaded ATI 22-caliber pistol, and a loaded Glock 17 9-millimeter. Police found shell casings on the driveway and near the back steps that belonged to the 45-caliber Kahr.
Police also found marijuana at the residence, according to Krueger. Reports are being forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s Office for review and appropriate charges. Police are still investigating what the men were doing with the firearms and fireworks. Officers are looking to speak with a third person who’s name is on the residence’s lease.
Krueger said police are glad there have been no reported injuries and the firearms are no longer in possession of convicted felons. According to witnesses, this was not the first incident involving gunshots and fireworks at the residence.
