Austin boys basketball team downed by Caledonia

The Austin boys basketball team lost another game by a slim margin when it lost 54-53 to Caledonia (8-1 overall), which is ranked No. 3 in Class AA, in the Winona State tournament in Winona Tuesday.

Nik Gasner hit a 3-pointer to pull Austin within 52-50 with a minute left, but Austin’s Zach Coffey was called for a charge on the Packers’ following possession, where they could’ve tied the game.

The Packers (5-6 overall) have now lost six games by a total of 14 points.

“We’ve shown we can play with anybody, but at the same time we’ve shown anybody can beat us,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “We’ve got to win these close games and we can’t have these five or six minute lulls where we don’t score.”

Austin jumped out to an 11-0 run to start the game, but the Warriors used a 17-0 run to take an 11-point lead at the half.
