Ethel Norland, 84, of Austin, died at Our House Assisted Living in Austin, on Dec. 13, 2014.

Ethel Marie Prestegaard was born in Worth County, Iowa, on Dec. 29, 1929, to Edward and Olga (Hendrickson) Prestegaard. Ethel grew up in Deer Creek, Iowa, where she went to country school. She later moved to Lyle and worked at the grocery store there before moving to Austin. On Oct. 8, 1949, she married Eldon ‘Skip’ Norland at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle. Their marriage was blessed with four sons and one daughter. Ethel and Eldon were charter members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Austin. Ethel was active there as a Sunday-school teacher and as a member of WELCA. She loved to bowl, knit, crochet and do needlework. A member of the Jolly Homemakers, she also helped out as a Cub Scout leader, and she and Eldon helped with the Special Olympics. Ethel will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Eldon ‘Skip’ Norland of Austin; five children: Robert (Patti) Norland, Lady Lake, Florida, David Norland (Jana Tack-Norland), Prior Lake, Brenda Wangen (Tony Klapperick), Albert Lea, Stanley (Terri) Norland, Blooming Prairie, Kevin (Lynda) Norland, Owatonna; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Olga Prestegaard; her son-in-law Dale Wangen; great-granddaughter Kaylee Wangen; siblings: Orin, Sylvia, Art, Elmer, and Juel.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Karen Behling officiating. Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home of Austin from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
