Austin firefighters put out a potential fire at a St. Mark’s Living apartment unit early Sunday after someone reportedly tried to microwave a book and some papers.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said firefighters were called to an apartment at the 1400 block of Fourth Street Southwest after someone reported smoke. They found someone had put a book and papers inside a microwave and tried to heat them by accident. Nearby neighbors were evacuated and no one was hurt, Krueger said.
