The Austin boys hockey team avoided a loss for the first time this season, but it had to settle for a 5-5 tie against the Wingers (0-7-1 overall, 0-4-1 Big Nine) in Red Wing Thursday.
Austin (0-6-1 overall, 0-3-1 Big Nine) took a 5-4 lead in the third period when Adam Maxfield scored a goal on assists by Jace Greenman and Brandon Miller, but the Wingers responded to force overtime with a goal.
Austin out-shot Red Wing 36-25.
“We had some defensive lapses that cost us the game,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “It was a back and forth game and both teams were working hard.”
Blake Halsey, Greenman, Daniel Bollingberg and Miller all scored goals in the tie for the Packers.
