Most of Mower County will likely miss much of a snowstorm Friday night into Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service is calling for about 2 to 4 inches of snow in the Austin area and most of Mower County, though the north part of Mower could get as much as 3 to 6 inches of snow.
NWS meteorologists are calling for a winter weather advisory around Mower County, however. Freeborn, Steele, Dodge and Olmsted counties could get even more snow combined with falling temperatures.
Meteorologist Jeff Boyne said the snow likely won’t start in the Austin area until after 7 p.m.
“By midnight, snow totals may be up to an inch, with another inch, inch and a half falling during the overnight and maybe another half inch tomorrow morning before it pulls off to the east,” he said.
The NWS is cautioning travelers to beware icy road conditions Friday night into Saturday as temperatures fall below freezing. Saturday’s high is 26 degrees, followed by a projected low of 12.
