Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Austin Public Schools after school activities were canceled today. Only K-8 activities are canceled. Austin High School events — including practices — are currently on as scheduled.
The latest batch of wintry weather sent many area students home early today.
With light snow and blustery winds moving into the area, many schools — Southland, Blooming Prairie, Grand Meadow and LeRoy/Ostrander Public Schools — closed at 10 a.m.
Austin schools were still on as normal, but several after school activities like Targeted Services, Heat & Word, and Neveln’s Targeted Services and Mentoring program were canceled. However, Kids Korner was slated to stay open for regular hours.
Most of Austin High School’s even activities were still on as planned. AHS athletic practices were still on as scheduled, though some games were canceled.
Austin Public Library is closing at 5 p.m. tonight. The Adams clinic will close at noon.
The National Weather Service says wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph combined with fresh snow will significantly reduce visibility, especially in open, rural areas. A blizzard warning was posted in an area from Granite Falls southeast to Mankato and Albert Lea.
