Stanley H. Lewison, 98, of Austin, Minnesota, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia.
Stanley Harlon (Red) Lewison was born Dec. 16, 1916, in Elkton, Minnesota, to C. Arthur and Ida (Gullickson) Lewison. He graduated from Adams High School in 1935. He worked for Struck Oil Co. in Rose Creek delivering tractor gasoline to area farmers. On Oct. 6, 1940, Stan was united in marriage to Margaret (Peg) Whiteside at the First Baptist Church in LeRoy, Minnesota. They were blessed with three children: Craig, Elaine and William (Bill). Stan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1943 where he served in the South Pacific from Australia to the Philippine Islands. He flew 48 bombing missions.
After returning to Austin, he worked for Cook Motor and Park Motors. Later, Stan owned and operated a Standard Oil filling station on South Main and Oakland Avenue. He became a real estate salesman for Kellogg Agency and later started his own real estate agency. After retiring from real estate, he was a rural mail carrier retiring in 1986. Stan was a long time member of Grace Baptist Church where he served in various positions during the years.
Stan was preceded in death by his his wife of 72 years, Peg; his parents Arthur and Ida; and two brothers: Raymond and Glenn.
He is survived by his three children: Craig (Debbie) of Janesville, Wisconsin, Elaine Cimino of Wheaton, Illinois, and William (Tammie) of Roanoke, Virginia; grandchildren: Chad (Kelli) Lewison of Burnsville, Minnesota, Jeff Lewison of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Linnie (Troy) Schaefer of Neenah, Wisconsin, Leslie (Mason) Karrer of Leawood, Kansas, and Nick (Emily) Cimino of Carterville, Illinois; and eight great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Deloris and Roger Saman of Mankato, Minnesota; nieces and nephews.
Stan enjoyed being with his family and friends, playing golf, and the Lewison cousin monthly breakfast. In younger years, he enjoyed playing football, basketball and bowling.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Brett Williams officiating. There will be a reception following the service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and at the church on Wednesday for one hour before the service. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
