Thousands of Jennie-O turkey chicks lost in fire

SWANVILLE, Minn. — Thousands of turkey poults have been lost in a fire at a barn owned by a producer in Todd County.

The sheriff’s department says firefighters were called to the barn fire near Swanville about 9:30 p.m. Sunday. The barn owned by Jennie-O housed about 19,000 4-week-old turkeys. Authorities say all the birds were lost in the fire and the barn sustained major damage.

KNSI reports fire departments from Swanville, Grey Eagle and Flensburg were on the scene.
