Alvin Carl Maves, 86, passed away on Feb. 24, 2015, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield.
Alvin was born on June 15, 1928, the son of Frank and Grace (Runyan) Maves in Waltham, Minnesota.
Alvin served in the United States Army from 1950-1953. Alvin was united in marriage to Mary Hall on July 24, 1951. In 1954, Al and Mary started Maves Rest Home, serving the community for 41 years. Al was in the window business for 57 years, was fire chief for 10 years and mayor of Hayfield for five years. For 30 years he had the Swingin Laendler Band and also played with the Polka Dots and numerous other local bands.
Al is survived by his children: Patricia Maves, Rochester, Minnesota, Alan (Cindy) Maves, Rochester, Minnesota, Sally (Bill) Decker, Maple Grove, Catherine (Randy) Olson, Pine Island, Minnesota, Monica (Jerome) Leichtnam, Faribault, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary in 2010; one grandson, Lucas in 2011.
Our family would like to thank the staff at Field Crest Care Center for the care given to our father, also thank you to Dana Simonson and Beaumont Senjem for all their visits.
The funeral mass for Alvin Carl Maves will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Second Street NE in Hayfield with the Rev. William Kulas celebrating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the Hayfield American Legion Rothie Post No. 330. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home 501, Second Street NW in Hayfield and one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.
