Twelve county farm bureaus in Southeast Minnesota recently honored February as Food Awareness Month by donating $400 to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester (RMH). The donation will be used to purchase a freezer for meat. County Farm Bureaus donating were Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Steele, Rice, Wabasha, Waseca and Winona.
“We could not be more excited to have a donation from local farmers to support the house,” said Paula Haraldson, RMH family services director.
“Our county farm bureaus value the opportunity to assist the Ronald McDonald House in providing for these families during their time of need,” said Cynthie Christensen, President of Houston County Farm Bureau. “These activities also give us the opportunity to share how much we care about our farms and providing healthy, nutritious food for families.”
In addition to the monetary donation, each July these county farm bureaus donate money to serve a home cooked meal and provide a family ag-stravaganza for residents at the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester. County Farm Bureau members cook and serve the meal at the house and provide a fun family event which brings the farm to the residents.
