The Austin Packer dance team kept its streak alive of making it to state 13 years in a row over the weekend, now it has its sights set on a strong finish.
The Packers will compete in the Class AA state high kick preliminaries at 2:20 p.m. Saturday at Target Center in Minneapolis and the squad is hoping it can be one of the six teams advancing to the finals at 7:15 p.m. Saturday.
“We are hoping to put our best on the floor at prelims and earn a place at finals. We want to walk off the floor with no regrets,” Austin head coach Kayla Sellers said. “These girls have worked so hard to get to where they are today. We could not be more proud of them.”
The Packers, who took fourth in the Class AA high kick at state last year, have taken first in the high kick in all but two of its meets this year. It won the Section 1A title this past weekend and the team is coming into state with a lot of confidence.
“They feed off of the pressure,” Sellers said. “They’re holding themselves and their team to high standards. Earning a trip to state was a huge goal of ours and now we want to make sure we put our best out there.”
