David Allen Dahlquist, 72, of Lyle, Minnesota, formerly of Russell, Minnesota, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Golden Living Center East, Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born March 26, 1942, in Tracy, Minnesota, to Charles H. and Florence B. (Bengtson) Dahlquist. After his graduation from Macalester College, David began teaching high school in Lyle. Throughout his years of teaching he taught English, drama, speech, and French. He retired from teaching in 1999. Following his retirement from teaching, he served as the Lyle schools state test coordinator and continued to volunteer his time reading for the elementary students. He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle where he played the organ and directed the choir. He was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and was a member of the Austin Sons of Norway. David loved the theater and was a board member, actor, and director at the Summerset Theater and Matchbox Children’s Theater in Austin, as well as an actor and director at the Marion Ross Theater in Albert Lea. He was artistic in many mediums. David was an avid collector and enjoyed playing Mexican Train dominoes. David freely gave his time and talents to many and will be missed.

Survivors include his chosen family, Ken and Audrey Miller of Balaton, Minnesota, Anne and Jay Collier and their children and Jackson and Malaney (his Goddaughter) Collier of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Jay and Annette Miller and their children and Rick and Ron Jorgenson, all of Balaton, Minnesota, Robert and Kay Vogt, Kirsten and Jeff Coury and their children Galadriel, Guenevere, and Genevieve Coury, all of Glendale, Arizona, Randy Vogt of Oakdale, Minnesota, Jim and JoAnn Guthmiller and their children Kelsy and Carter, all of Lyle, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Florence Dahlquist; and his grandparents. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota with the Rev. Ronald Myers officiating. Visitation will be held for two hours immediately preceding the service at the church. Interment will be in the Russell City Cemetery, Russell, Minnesota, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Matchbox Children’s Theater or recipient of donor’s choice. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
