A 22-year-old Austin woman was arrested for drug possession after making an abrupt left turn at a traffic light, cutting off an Austin police officer in a squad car and almost causing an accident.
According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, the woman was stopped shortly before 1 a.m. for the traffic violation at the 400 block of First Ave Southwest.
The officer smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, and police K-9 Sonic — who was on duty at the time — was called to the scene. Sonic searched the exterior of the vehicle and detected narcotics.
Officers found a small baggy of marijuana in a Newport cigarette pack, a baggy with a white, powdery substance in the cup holder, and a third baggy on the floor.
There was half a gram of marijuana and half a gram of cocaine. The woman admitted the drugs belonged to her, according to Krueger.
The woman was arrested for fifth-degree drug possession containing substance, fourth-degree driving under the influence, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.
She is currently awaiting charges at the Mower County Jail.
