An Austin woman recovered most of her belongings after police stopped the men who allegedly broke into her apartment early Sunday morning.
Austin Police Capt. Dave McKichan said officers were called to Fourth Avenue Northeast near Packer Arena at about 5 a.m. Sunday after someone reported two men, ages 22 and 17, carrying TVs and walking along a bike path.
According to McKichan, officers suspected the men had stolen the TVs, along with a laptop and other items they had, after the 22-year-old tried to hide by laying down in a grove of trees. Police identified the men and took the items into custody, where they tracked down the owner using a name on the laptop.
The victim hadn’t yet reported the burglary at her home, at the 400 block of Third Avenue Southeast, when police checked on her.
McKichan said most of the victim’s missing items have been returned, including a purse found a short distance away from her home. Officers took the 17-year-old into custody and are looking for the 22-year-old. The case has been forwarded to the Mower County Attorney’s office.
