Austin Symphony Orchestra presents their second “Beethoven Bash” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, at the Paramount Theatre.
Last year saw an impressive performance of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, and this year the group continues to bring unforgettable classics into an incredible acoustic space with the Fifth Symphony (you know the one — “da da da duhhh”). Perhaps even more exciting than the prospect of hearing such a celebrated opus in person, however, is the opportunity to hear one of the six best young pianists in the world, Fei-Fei Dong, perform in our own small town.
Hailed as “one of the most engaging and promising rising stars in the musical firmament” (Times Herald-Record), Chinese pianist Fei-Fei Dong landed among the top six finalists at the 2013 Cliburn Competition— a prestigious international competition for young pianists — at just 22 years old.
Since giving her first recital at the age of 10, Dong has built a reputation for charming audiences with her enthusiastic stage presence, appearing around the world in such places as the Kennedy Center and Juilliard (where she also attended school, earning both her Bachelor and Masters degrees there).
The pianist will be performing Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto with the symphony, which is sure to give the the Paramount — and the hearts of those lucky enough to be sitting just beneath its stars — a show to remember.
Grab your tickets early for this one, folks. Find them online at austinareaarts.org or by calling the box office at 507-434-0934. You can also purchase them at the ArtWorks Center (we’ll be reopening on Tuesdays beginning April 7).
